Week 20 - Sub Trends

Mini Skirt

People were more acknowledged about feminism and fashion was therefore changing. Women were beginning to go to work and attending University, additionally the 1960's was the decade when marriage and divorce was empowered. It seems that ll these factores were giving women a different image, one which shows confidence and power and highlighting their youth and fashion was a major aspect of this.

The miniskirt would express—and serve as a tool for—this growing woman’s movement.

Mary Quant 

1966 Mary Quant invented the mini skirt, she made a success as it was so differnent to any other trend. Her designes we very simple, clean and youthfull. It was designed so young girls could have the freedom for move. She named the mini skirt after her favourite car, being the mini.

Mod & Hippie

The Beatles ad a great influence on the fashion tends of the the 1960's . They were the most cultural revolution in history. Many people believe they were the ones to change attitudes, relationships, clothes, music, art, love, peace, war etc.

The Beatles influence many, hairstyles were a major factor that many were influences by. This hairstyle was named Mop-Top which consisted of long lengthy hair.

The Beatles introduced leather glad and greasy hair.

Rachael Cassar

Rachael  Casser - Eco Friendly Designer

As an Eco designer Rachael's designs consist of each garment being used with 90% recycled materials, which therefor mean she is not contributing  further to the degradation of the environment. As a designer she is more so unicycling rather then recycling.

Her designs are appealing due to their unique appearance, and the way in which she transform fabric both vintage and unused which mostly consist of cotton, silk, leather, chiffon, tulle and hand made lace.

 "Deconstruction is the concept of sourcing second hand materials and using them in my designs."

As a designer she feels it is important for everyone to know where products come from and the way in which all these products were produced.

Rachael Cassar chosen to base her designs on re-claimed material as their is so much waste, therefore she wanted to create one off garments that consist of material that they already have had in their life. She designers statement pieces; which capture everything she loves about couture fashion and the only difference with her couture is that the Rachael and the buyer have concerns for the environment.

Designs based on air pollution- filter collars for nose and mouth.

Ballistic Nylon Parka- slash resistant and identity mask

This design I feel is very clever and really covers all aspects that the designers wanted to improve and really meets their overall design brief.

Key Fashion Subcultures of 1970's

1970's

This week we have been asked to research into the 1970's, covering a timeline, fashion subcultues, key designers and key trends. We were all given a specific area to look ito and mine consisted of Key trends.Within all theses aspects are links with legal, politcal, econimic, envionmental, socio-cultural, technolical and last of all competitve forces which can be found to dermine how all these 4 aspects.

Key Treands

I reasearched the net for secoundary facts that would help me find my primarary. I found various websites which illustarated that the 1970's was the party generation, with most colthes incorporating sparkles to catch the light. By day its all about clean yet voluminous silhouettes and earthy colour palettes. Below I have illustarted imags from my visit to 'Beyond Retro' Soho.



 Image above shows high waisted wide trousers which were a very populor key peice.

Knee High Boots.

Early 70's - Hippie

The Hippie trend developed from America and spread around the world. It cosisted of lots of colour and pattern, flared trousers and belled sleeved shirts.

The Bay Cuity Rollers

Popular Scottishh Band during the 70's and music was a very big influence on fashion. The fashion cosisted of alot of tartan, three quarter length trousers and collarless jackets.

Disco

This fashion stage was all about passion and energy for muscic. Lots of lightweight fabrics were used to allow movement. Clothers incorporated alot of sequins, jumpsuits and hip-hugging bell bottoms.

Punk

This trend was introduced by Viviene Westwood , where the era finally turned their backs on frilly feminine clothing to more dark ripped clothing. The clothes suited those with a limited cash lifestyle and the graments were designed to attract attention.
